Doggie Glamour

While I normally focus on things of a more human nature, but this has been something I’ve always really wondered about. There have been few times when man has been pictured without his dog, from cavemen paintings to more modern-day celebrities snapped with their Chihuahuas. The way your doggie best friend is dressed or accessorised has become very important.

I admit, I found this a little strange, ok maybe a coat for winter but pet owners are taking styling their dog to the extreme ! Luxury brands as well as a number of pet retailers have taken notice of this trend and are retailing everything from leather lined dog baskets to diamond collars !

If you are looking to spoil your cuddly chum, here are some luxury items made especially with your pampered pooch in mind:

1. Louis Vuitton – Dog Carrier 50 – £1,660.

Yes that’s right, you can accesorise your dog to match your speedy 30 or Alma. Probably most known for being the transport of choice for Jessica Simpson’s late dog Daisy as well as Ciara’s dogs Tyson and Georgia. The Louis Vuitton dog carrier is one of the most expensive dog travel systems I could find, and is clearly a must have for celebs and socialites wanting their dog to be seen in something so expensive ! But hey nothing is too good for your four-legged friend. You can pick up one of these at Louis Vuitton boutiques, but my advice is to call ahead to check it is in stock.

2.Bottega Veneta – $520

This leather collar is made in Italy and is definitely the perfect accessory for your dapper dog. Matching belts are also available for owners if you wanted to co-ordinate. The collar is available at Barneys.com who ship internationally.

3.Gucci Dog Leash – £530

Why not be stylish while taking your dog for a walk? This leash by Gucci clearly is not for everyday ‘walkies’, and is a tad short, clearly made with smaller dogs in mind.Available online and at Gucci stores.

4.Kiehl’s Cuddly Coat Conditioner – $17

Even Kiehl’s are in on the act, which really amused me.Apparently it moisturises and gives your dog very shiny coat. It’s not available in the UK yet, but if you were so inclined to purchase enquire with Kiehl’s instore. So while you are picking up your skin care products for yourself, think of your dog and pick up some conditioner for him or her. At $17 it doesn’t break the bank, it’s a reasonable amount to pay to give your dog a taste of luxury.

5.Mulberry Dog t-shirt – £60

Yes, it is that Mulberry ! I’m not exactly sure why a dog needs a t-shirt but it makes a cute addition to your dog’s wardrobe. It’s available in small, medium and large(although not sure if it will fit a husky) so it should fit most dogs pretty well!

6. Amour Amour by I Love Dog Diamonds.com – $3,200,000.

No it is not a necklace, and yes it is a dog collar ! Saving the very best(and dare I say most insane) for last, the world’s most expensive dog collar. I’d say the title ‘amour amour’ is apt, you’d really have to love your dog to splash out a whopping $3 million for the diamond creation. The collar features both platinum and 18 carat white gold, did I mention the 1600 hand set diamonds?

I’m undecided on whether this doggie glamour is such a good idea? Everything is good in moderation, but some owners have been noted to take things to a complete next level ! Somehow I doubt it makes a difference to your dog whether they are dressed in Mulberry or diamonds, but sometimes it’s sweet to reward your faithful pup for their unconditional love.
